Newport Teen Family Photos at Crystal Cove State Beach

Family photoshoots with teens sometimes feel intimidating - ‘cause we all know teens are not always thrilled to take photos with mom & dad… but to tell you the truth, teen family photoshoots are some of my absolute favorite! This Newport family photoshoot at Crystal Cove State Beach was the perfect example of how teen family photos don't have to feel boring OR awkward!

Teenagers… they’re usually in their last years at home, leaving behind their last bits of childhood - so of course you want to capture these moments before they're gone! And you want these memories to feel genuine & full of love.

We decided on Crystal Cove for this family photoshoot, and it was the perfect location for a fun time - open sandy beaches, ocean views, cliffs, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect! It was a warm, golden evening.

We walked along the boardwalk to get to the beach… with some music & conversation, everyone relaxed and the evening just became more and more fun as time went on. We ran through the water, looked for crabs, danced, and I even encouraged some playful sibling competition. Those moments always lead to the best expressions!

As soon as we reached the water, I could tell the beach was a happy place for this family… and that’s exactly the place you want to be to capture real joy!

For parents, sessions like this are about more than getting everyone in one photo. They're about preserving this season of life before it changes again.

Kids grow up so quickly…schedules become busier, and opportunities to capture everyone together become fewer and farther between.
